Lord Tweedmouth purchased a yellow puppy from a cobbler in Brighton in 1865. It was the only yellow pup in a litter of black wavy-coated retrievers. This puppy was named Nous. This puppy was later raised to a Tweed Water Spaniel named Belle in 1868 and again in 1871. This was the beginning of the line of yellow retrievers. Descendants
